A New Song: "(In Her) Wake)"

On Sunday, June 19, the GIPC band performed a song originally written for a retiring co-worker, (now former) Taylor Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Teresa Winnie.  The song is about a person whose actions and words affect everyone around her, but who remembers she is just the stone making ripples in the lake - and she gives credit to the one who cast her on her way.  Enjoy.
“(In Her) Wake” by Dave Martin
If you throw a pebble in a pond
And ripples form around,
The edges spread until they’re met,
Causing them to bounce.
And the direction of their reflection
Shifts with each new interaction,
But it all began with that first stone
And the one who tossed her down.
What if that pebble knew
The one who cast her was the Lord?
That her only job was to fly true
On the path He set her forth?
As the ripples of her life spread
And touched everyone around,
She knew who to thank for
All the love that surrounds her.
I hope to be
Like that stone.
I hope that I can be as humble,
And trust the path I'm on.
And I believe the stone was chosen
For the waves that she would make.
And I will be forever blessed
To have stood in her wake.

As time moves on, the crest that circled
‘round the stone will calm.
When the one who set her on her way
Says It's her time to move on.
And she may be a thousand miles
Away by and by,
But it won't break the waves that
Touched my heart and changed my life.

What if that pebble knew
The one who cast her was the Lord?
That her only job was to fly true
On the path He set her forth?
As the ripples of her life spread
And touched everyone around,
She knew who to thank for
All the love that surrounds her.

I hope to be
Like that stone.
I hope that I can be as humble,
And trust the path I'm on.
And I believe the stone was chosen
For the waves that she would make.
And I will be forever blessed
To have stood in her wake.
